Financial Reporting Manager (Chicago)

Accretive Solutions’ Executive Search Practice has been engaged by an excellent mid-sized, public company to recruit a Financial Reporting Manager to join their team, located in Downtown Chicago. Responsibilities: 

Prepares and submits regulatory reports. Assists in maintaining the Bank’s general ledger and subsidiary ledger accounts, including preparing and posting adjusting journal entries throughout the month and closing journal entries as part of the month end close. Prepares daily and monthly reconciliations of various general ledger accounts through interpretation and analysis of underlying financial data.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Prepares schedules to support regulatory reports to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Federal Reserve Bank and Federal Home Loan Bank that include, but are not limited to, quarterly reports on Form 10-Q, annual reports on Form 10-K, the quarterly Call Report, FR Y-9C, FR Y-9LP, FR Y-8 and Qualified Collateral Reports.
• Prepares and analyzes financial statements on a monthly basis, including income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows.
• Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and bank procedures.
• Documents business transactions.
• Supervises assigned staff positions on a day-to-day basis
• Prepares and posts general ledger journal entries to Prologue, the accounting software.
• Interprets and analyzes financial information posted to general ledger accounts.
• Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports. Includes month end expense analysis.
• Researches balance sheet items and income/expense fluctuations utilizing various systems and information sources.
• Effectively communicates with other bank departments in order to obtain necessary information to accurately resolve open items on a timely basis.
• Executes ad hoc projects as assigned by manager.

Requirements: 

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
• 2+ years' Big 4 experience
• Strong knowledge of MS Office, particularly MS Excel, MS Word, and Access Databases
• Familiarity with Prologue, Fiserv Signature and Call Reporter Premier is advantageous
• Ability to work well under deadlines
• CPA Preferred, but Not Required
• This position interacts with several different areas of the company on a daily basis and requires a high level of organization, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ideal candidate should enjoy working in a team environment, and have an interest in learning the financial reporting processes of a multi-billion $ financial institution.

SOX Controls Manager (Chicago)

Accretive Solutions’ Executive Search Practice has been engaged by an excellent mid-size bank to recruit a SOX Controls Manager to join their team, located in Downtown Chicago. Candidate must have SOX controls management experience in financial services and a CPA, CFE, CISA, or CIA (or pursuing). SOX implementation and public accounting experience are highly preferred. The company is growing, has a great culture, and excellent benefits. Salary range $120K + nice bonus.

Responsibilities: 

Bank is seeking to hire a SOX Controls Manager. As a SOX Controls Manager, demonstrated success building and leading a team in the analysis, design, and implementation for Internal Controls department procedures and infrastructure. This position will be responsible for assisting and performing assessment of risks and controls for financial reporting by developing and implementing Bank’s risk rationalization and adopted control assessment approach.
This position interacts with internal and external auditors, as well as process owners and executives. The person in this role will serve as the Internal Controls liaison for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Performing Risk identification / mitigation / control rationalization strategies
• Coordinating of required internal control documentation and maintenance
• Advising on internal control design, integration, and implementation
• Assist process owners with updating process documentation (maps/narratives/control matrices) as needed.
• Execution and review of testing, as needed.
• Assist with baselining of key spreadsheets and reports.
• Evaluating internal control remediation plans
• Analyzing reported changes to assigned processes
• Prioritizing critical business areas for management assessment
• Working with External Auditors to facilitate assessments
• Facilitating and providing guidance with execution and verification of financial reporting internal controls is performed in accordance with the control assessment approach
• Development of control evidence expectations and SOX testing plans
• Maintaining comprehensive SOX documentation
• Assist with special projects as needed

Requirements: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related financial discipline
• Demonstrated management experience
• Proven track record of meeting regulatory requirements of SOX and standards set by PCAOB and adopted by the SEC
• Experience with SOX implementation in financial services companies highly preferred
• Preferred certifications (or progress toward same) include:
o CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
o CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner)
o CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor)
o CIA (Certified Internal Auditor)
• Public accounting experience preferred
• Experience with SOX implementation within a M&A (Merger & Acquisition) environment highly preferred
