Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager

Accretive Solutions’ Executive Search Practice has been engaged by one of its clients to recruit an Environmental Health and Safety Manager to join their team, located in Detroit.

Responsibilities: 

• Assist Senior Management with the advancement and continued implementation of compliance programs and best practices companywide.
• Develop, review and revise EHS procedures.
• Maintain required EHS records.
• Provide training materials/e-learning tools, scheduling and tracking of training requirements and corporate compliance program obligations across all divisions.
• Assist site supervisors as they implement company and customer EHS requirements and achieve a high level of safety performance and environmental compliance.
• Assist Division Managers with the development of annual budgets for EHS needs across the company.
• Plan, develop and implement various EHS programs and share internal and external best practices.
• Conduct periodic OSHA compliance audits.
• Maintain OSHA statistics for sites and divisions. Provide quarterly updates of health and safety performance. Provide strategies for continuous improvement of health and safety performance to site health and safety coordinators and senior management staff.
• Assist with the collection of data, records and employee notifications relating to required exposure assessments and medical monitoring.
• Assist the human resources department with job descriptions and physical requirements for certain job categories.
• Assist Legal Counsel, Division Managers and Business Development staff with project prequalification requirements pertaining to EHS.
• Participate in accident investigations and root cause analysis and dissemination of corrective actions.
• Work with external regulatory agencies and develop required reports and communications.
• Develop Safe Job Procedures and Safety Tool Box Meeting documents for site monthly safety meetings. Participate in safety meetings on a rotating basis..
• Participate in Corporate Senior Management briefings and meetings. Assist with plant inspections and responding to requests by the plant managers.

Requirements: 

• This position requires a broad knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.
• Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of EHS management experience. Experience in the power industry is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of the basic principles of recognition, evaluation and control of industrial health and safety hazards, electrical safety, arc flash, hazard communication, fall protection, forklift and heavy equipment safety, and confined space entry will be expected.
• Experience in environmental compliance is required. Experience with ensuring compliance with Title V Air permits is preferred.
