Technical Accounting, Revenue Recognition Consultant

The consultant will work collaboratively with Revenue Recognition team leaders and other stakeholders, to assist with the project management for the implementation of the ASC 606 – Revenue Recognition. The final objective of the engagement is to assist the client to go live with the new standard on January 2018. The project includes among other things: analysis of arrangements and data, process optimization, standardization and localization, automation, documentation, and training. Ad hoc projects may be added upon mutual consent.

Responsibilities:

• “Broad background in revenue recognition”
• Understand the nature of the engagement—scope of services, deadlines, and other requirements—and meet commitments (Ensure work is delivered on time and in accordance with client’s high standards)
• Share knowledge and best practices
• Ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external business partners in a matrix organization, building credible stakeholder relationships
• Anticipate client needs and proactively look for solutions
• Ability to obtain requirements and work with the business and technical teams to define appropriate business process solutions
• Ability to engage with a variety of business stakeholders (finance operations, legal, sales, product management) at different levels to understand underlying revenue recognition processes and practices
• Provide recommendations to improve operational procedures and systems related to revenue processes, procedures, and controls
• Assisting in preparing and translating business requirements to system functional design.
• Assisting in performing gap analysis and supporting the implementation in the enterprise finance systems (preferred knowledge of Oracle, SAP, Great Plains)
• Provide functional support to users
• Develop process documentation, training materials, and communications; training users on new or enhanced system or process
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams and process owners (e.g., Shared Services and Tax, IT) to ensure end to end process alignment
• Ability to deal with a multitude of sources, customers, clients, requirements

Requirements: 

Please apply if you have many of the following:
• Minimum of eight years of work experience, including both public accounting consultant and industry experience, gathered in companies selling goods
• General understanding of new revenue recognition guidance (ASC606)
• Strong technical accounting expertise and practical experience with revenue recognition in accordance with US GAAP.
• Technical accounting experience researching and applying revenue recognition guidance as provided by U.S. GAAP. Such experience should include a number of the following areas:
o Accounting for multiple-element arrangements, including estimation of fair value of each element
o Revenue recognition for hardware
o Percentage of completion (highly desirable)
o Understanding of application of general revenue recognition principles surrounding gross versus net revenue, sell-in versus sell-through, warranty and extended warranty arrangements, and return rights
• Experience in preparing revenue recognition memos, policies, procedures, service agreements
• Knowledge of business operations, processes and/or technology, and business strategy to evaluate problems and opportunities
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret contracts for their revenue recognition implications
• Excellent communication skills
• BA/BS degree in accounting
• CPA certification preferred
